10 television shows Like ‘The Uncanny Counter’

1. Mystic Pop-up Bar

Conventions – noodles and characters

With an original script and great chemistry between the actors, this latest K-drama hits the right note in terms of humor, suspense, and world building. It also covers many important themes about life and death and the consequences of our actions, which is a good level of depth for this series.

The drama is captivating in its world-building and shows us how people are judged after dying and what happens next. There is a strong sense of karma throughout life, focusing on how our past actions will reflect our next life – or even our future.

2. Illegality Lawyer

Conformity – Action

At first glance, Lawless Lawyer could be dismissed as another Korean legal drama. Still, there are plenty of fights and actions worthy of mixed martial arts under the hood of this action-packed outsider. The show is based on a gangster lawyer named Bong Sang-Pil. He does not trust the law and takes matters into his own hands, using his fists and feet.

Unlike other k-dramas in this genre, Lawless Lawyer doesn’t get bogged down in big romance and artificial love triangles but focuses much more on action and drama.

3. Angel

Similarity – Hell’s Strike Force and Dysfunctional Team

If Buffy the Vampire Slayer is praised for its intelligent writing, brilliant female characters, and excellent storytelling, then Buffy the sidekick is probably no more minor.

Angel sometimes goes deeper into his mythology and ideas than Buffy and presents David Boreanaz as a tortured vampire with a soul. You’ll almost certainly get an impression of Matthew!

Angel moves to Los Angeles and is joined by an eclectic group of characters, including Cordelia, who jumps from Buffy to the series. While many will lament the apparent and disappointing staging of the final episode, Angel is simply one of the best series of the 90s and a real gem worth watching.

4. Ugly penny

Equivalence – non-traditional control

Set in Victorian, London, The Penny Dreadful combines bloody horror and mystery in an atmospheric series. The story is essentially about explorer Sir Malcolm Murray, American gunman Ethan Chandler, scientist Victor Frankenstein, and psychic Vanessa Ives working together to combat supernatural threats.

It’s a simple premise, but this show excels in the plot and acting. Everything about Penny Dreadful exudes charisma, and despite a slow start in the first season, she quickly became a real force in the world of horror.

It’s also well produced, with nicely dressed sets and well-rounded characters. It’s worth a look.

5. Come on, Ghost

Likelihood – Hunting for supernatural powers.

Bring It On, and Ghost is an engaging Korean drama that makes you feel like a ghost hunter with an eccentric crew and gentle drama. The main character is Park Bong Pal, who happens to be a student with the ability to see and communicate with spirits. He signs up as an exorcist to help people defeat the ghosts that haunt them to make some extra money.

Along the way, he meets Kim Hyun-Ji, the spirit of a 19-year-old student who cannot escape this plane of existence. A professor at Bong Pal University named Hye Song, who has an unexplained connection to the two, may have the key to deciphering what happened.

Well-written, romantic, and full of frightening interactions, Bring It On, Ghost channels these unconventional and domineering vibes to create a truly entertaining Korean drama.

6. Claymore

Likelihood – Hunting for supernatural powers.

While Claymore is not as popular as Demon Slayer, it is another anime that depicts a world full of demons. But this time, their name is Youma, as we follow the young woman with silver eyes, known as Claire. She works for an organization that trains mixed-race warriors to hunt and kill these demons.

But the focus is on Claire, and the anime follows her as she flies on many different missions throughout the series. The latter, however, is more focused on characterization. Part of the reason it works so well is that it writes for its performers, who constantly leave an impression throughout the performance.

7. Guest

Likeness – Supernatural combat habits and powers

Well written and scary, The Guest is an obsessive horror that features an unconventional team, this time between three different characters. Hwa Pyung is a young psychic born into a family of shamans who discovers a powerful demon called Son (Guest). This demon has the power to control other demons and possess stupid people.

When this demon is on the loose, Hwa Pyung teams up with Choi Yoon, a boy from a Catholic family, and Kil Young, a detective’s daughter, after their families are killed by a demon.

It was forging a friendship that was interrupted 20 years ago to find Son on the prowl forces this unlikely trio to regroup and try to stop him before it’s too late.

The series is well written, with many memorable moments and pretty intense sections.

8. Grimm

Similarities – Fantasy, horror, and characters

Grimm’s stories have always been full of intriguing and scary tricks. This series from NBC is a mix of supernaturally charged segments that pay homage to the Brothers Grimm and more straightforward investigative dramas.

It focuses on detective Nick Burkhardt, who discovers that he comes from a line of guardians known as Grimms. He is responsible for maintaining the balance between humanity and the creatures (mythological creatures).

Along the way, Nick fights several dangerous creatures and teams up with his friend Vesna Monroe, and his partner, Detective Hank Griffin. So if you’re looking for another scary squad, it’s worth checking out.

9. Ash vs. dead bad guys

Conformity – Action

Set 30 years after the first three Evil Dead films, Ash VS Evil Dead is a continuation of this trilogy, but you don’t need to have seen these films to understand what’s happening here. The story revolves around Ash Williams, who works as a warehouse clerk. His friend Pablo and the love of his life, Kelly, also work in the same shop.

After his return from the year 1300 n. Chr. at the end of Army of Darkness (the third film), Ash is again called upon to fight the evil of the dead. Along the way, Pablo and Kelly decide to join him and leave to save humanity.

A perfect blend of comedy and fantasy, Ash VS Evil Dead is an intriguing entry into the western television market and should keep you busy for a while with its three seasons.

10. Demon Hunter

Similarities – Action, Revenge Story, and Characters

Incredibly popular in Japan, Demon Slayer is an action anime divided into 26 episodes. At the center of the action is Tangier, which barely survives being brutally murdered by demons. Fortunately, his sister Nezuko survived the attack, but time was running out. She slowly turns into a monster, and Tanjiro must try to find a cure for her.

Full of action, beautifully animated, and with plenty of history, Demon Slayer offers excellent fights that will keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time. The film may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but its popularity is undeniable, thanks partly to its animation and story.
