Equality – stranded on an uninhabited island

In 2004, a small series called Lost far exceeded the budget with a trial episode. As a result, several people were fired.

They didn’t know that this debacle would help Lost become a global phenomenon that would completely change the way people watch television.

This very entertaining series of mysteries follows a group of survivors of a plane crash stranded on the coast and struggling to survive on a very strange island that has many secrets.

In the course of 7 seasons the series gets a bit lost, but it is always a fascinating and unique journey. If you haven’t seen it yet, Lost is a must-see series.

Similarities – sign and tone

97 years after a nuclear war destroyed civilization. A spaceship full of lonely survivors is humanity’s last hope for survival. With this in mind, 100 juvenile delinquents are sent back to Earth and crash-landed in the hope of repopulating the planet.

This novel also contains teenage dramas, with many relationship problems and, in most cases, an appropriate land tone. It’s really worth sticking to it, and after a relatively fickle first season, the 100 are starting to get a lot more. With 7 seasons to go on and a lot of drama on the way, this should keep you very busy.

Common ground – The secrecy of containment and teenage issues

Essentially, society is a modern circle of Lord of the Flies. However, as usual with Netflix, The Society feels a bit overwhelmed during the 10 episodes and could have used a tighter edit. Yet the series is quite intriguing and begins with a strange smell that settles in an American city when several children return from a school trip.

They soon discover that all the adults have disappeared, and stranger still, the city is now inexplicably surrounded by a dense and lush forest. When the smell finally disappears, the children realize that there are small differences in their city that play a big role in the rest of the story.

When they realize they have nowhere else to go, the children of society fall into a heady cocktail of fear and adolescent melodrama. In between these constant parties and sex, the group comes together and tries to find out what happened – which is somewhat revealing in the second part.

Be warned, however, that the company was dissolved by Netflix in mid-2020 and therefore has no conclusion. Still, the trip to this point has been fun.

Common land – juvenile delinquency and problems

Dare Me is an interesting cheerleader drama that takes elements from Gossip Girl and other similar melodramas and merges them into a ten-episode series with murder, rape and jealousy as central, dark themes. It’s fair to say that this film might be a bit dark for a younger audience, but children 15 years and older should definitely see it.

Based on the bestseller of the same name from 2004, Dare Me is a story that essentially revolves around three women. Addy and Beth are best friends, inseparable teenagers who love the intoxicating world of booze, drugs and parties. When Colette, the cheerleader’s new coach, arrives to shake things up, a story follows that begins to create a sense of friendship between Beth and Eddie as dark secrets envelop the trio.

It may be a little darker than the content of The Hardy Boys, but the thriller of this book is quite strong, and it is also supported by good character development.

Buffy the vampire slayer

matches – tone of voice, humour, teenage hair

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is one of the most influential series that has paved the way for strong female characters. His progressive ideas about relationships, narrative and timeless comedy make it a show that still stands today.

The story revolves around a teenage girl named Buffy Summers who discovers she’s a Slayer – a young girl destined to fight the evil forces that spit out the aptly named Hellmouth in the city of Sunnydale.

While many fans will agree that the series should have ended at the end of Season 5, ironically, Season 6 contains one of the best episodes of the television series – a musical no less – that captures the humour, the sadness and the beautiful narrative work that the series is synonymous with.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer is the ultimate scary action movie and another must-have if you’re in the mood for a challenging female action movie.

Western world

Agreements – Organisation of Mystery Management and Games

Based on Michael Crichton’s 1973 novel, Westworld is anything but old-fashioned fiction. Westworld is indeed an exciting and challenging puzzle box, full of fascinating ideas and complex themes.

The center of this park is a theme park called Westworld, where robotic residents fulfill all the wishes of their masters. What happens then when these robots develop sensations? This theme is a thread running through Westworld, and while the following seasons lose sight of what made the show so special, season one in particular is as close to perfect science fiction as one could wish for.

If you’re in the mood for a little sci-fi with a twist, it’s worth watching.

External banks

parable – exciting adventure and teenage hair

Outer Banks is one of those series that seems to work. He has the right dose of humour, a firm Famous Five/Goonies touch, and knows how to weave it all into a decent mystery that moves at a good pace.

The story itself revolves around the Outer Banks, an island inhabited by two different tribes. The dolls and dogs live in a classroom and the poor dogs play with our four friends John B, JJ, Ciara and Pope who are on a mission to find John B’s missing father and a hidden treasure with 400 million gold bars.

The setting is quite simple and is completed by the mysterious and rich daughter Cook Sarah, who has a great group chemistry and a well-written novel that doesn’t derail the story.

All in all, it’s a great option, and the adventure is definitely similar to the Hardy Boys.

Cute little liars

Agreements – Adolescent problems

Pretty Little Liars revolves around four friends who are chased by an anonymous enemy who discovers their darkest secrets. If that’s not enough, the quartet is also working together to investigate the disappearance of their best friend, the group’s queen bee, Alison.

What started out as a simple mystery soon becomes much more than the twists and turns that make things exciting. There is also an element of Gossip Girl here, but what makes this movie so interesting is finding out who A is and what these girls might be hiding from each other.

It can be a bit slow sometimes, but if you’re a fan of teenage drama, it’s definitely worth watching.

Survivor’s pension

Equality – stranded on an uninhabited island

Although Survivor has existed since the 1990s, he is probably the innovator who introduced the concept. Interestingly, it was also launched a few months before the first Big Brother, so 2000 was a pretty busy year for the genre!

The principle of Survivor’s 40 Seasons is as simple as it is intriguing. At the heart of each relay race is a group of participants who are deliberately left to their own devices in an isolated place where they have to provide food, water, fire and shelter.

It is of course very simple, with exceptions, tribal issues and many twists and turns to keep things unpredictable.

If you’re looking for something more realistic than The Wilds, but still true to the idea of a desert island, then it’s worth looking. It may not be perfect, and it certainly comes with its share of tropics and reality TV clichés, but it’s certainly entertaining television.
