A top-rated, entirely new experience. The Allbirds Wool Lounger is not just a shoe but an entire lifestyle product to help you relax and be less stressed at work and better manage your time with its woolens. A $200 price tag may look steep for these shoes, but the quality of materials used makes them worth every penny.
Allbirds is a company that makes the softest and coziest wool loungers. They are made of 100% merino wool, which is super breathable and will keep you warm in the winter. The “all birds wool dwellers review” has been released by multiple sources, including TechCrunch.
Let’s face it: you’re not going to purchase the Allbirds Wool Loungers for their high-end design. However, these shoes, primarily composed of Merino wool, have a natural slipper sensation. (This is especially true if you get shoes in one of the gray hues.)
Because of all the characteristics, you’re undoubtedly interested in the Allbirds Wool Loungers. According to Allbirds’ website, these loungers are:
- Soft enough to wear without socks
- Thermostatic regulation (cool in the heat and warm in the cold)
- resistive to odors
- Dishwasher safe
- Also, keep your carbon impact to a minimum.
That’s a lot of features for a pair of shoes, to be sure. So it’s no wonder that Allbirds has exploded in popularity in recent years, with celebrity endorsements and appearances in publications such as the New Yorker and Time.
Are the Allbirds Wool Loungers as excellent as they claim to be? Let’s have a look at what we’ve got.
Features, Fit, and Fabric
It’s no secret that we at Pack Hacker like Merino wool. Thousands of words have been written about this fantastic, eco-friendly fabric, and it’s used in some of the highest-rated travel clothes on the site. So we’re all for shoes that take advantage of all of Merino’s natural, fantastic qualities.
Wool Loungers from Allbirds
Merino wool of 17.5 microns is used to make the Loungers. For a minute, let’s go technical: a micron is the diameter of wool fiber, and the lower the number, the finer and softer the fabric. These sneakers are pretty quiet, weighing in at 17.5. And, unlike that sweater your grandma gave you last year, Merino wool isn’t irritating.
We’ve been trying these loungers without socks, and they’re just as pleasant as Allbirds claims. You’ll fall head over heels for these fellas (Heels…get it?) if you can’t take wearing socks with shoes for any reason. They’re soft and cuddly.
The Wool Lounger’s odor and moisture resistance haven’t pleased us despite Merino’s naturally antibacterial and sweat-wicking capabilities. We still sweat in these shoes, and the perspiration smells like sweaty feet. Sure, it’s a step forward than wearing a pair of sockless shoes, but it doesn’t blow us away.
Wool Loungers by Allbirds are now being washed.
Fortunately, Allbird’s assurance that Wool Loungers can be washed remains true. We cleaned them by removing the insoles and passing them on the delicate setting in the machine with Granger’s Merino Wool Wash. And we’re delighted to report that they came out of the laundry unblemished and spotless—if slightly wrinkled on the top. So don’t worry, and the wrinkles will fade as you walk about in the Wool Loungers.
The shoes dry entirely in a few hours (you should never dry Merino wool), which may seem like a long time, but it’s not awful for a pair of shoes. Mainly because they don’t keep any water, don’t trap any musty smells, and don’t get wet on the soles.

This leads us to Merino’s last advantage: thermoregulation. While these shoes will keep your feet toasty in the winter, they will not provide the same level of protection as boots. Wool retains its warmth when wetter than other textiles, but it lacks water resistance, allowing freezing snow to soak through the upper. But, of course, if you live somewhere where the temperature just slightly decreases in the winter and your only exposure to snow is during an annual ski vacation, these shoes should suffice.
The Loungers are also breathable, making them suitable for hot weather, but we wouldn’t advocate wearing them on scorching days. Sweatiness, as previously noted, will become a concern.
Wool Loungers Compressed by Allbirds
Allbirds talks about the Wool Loungers’ adaptability and environmental responsibility, but these qualities aren’t specific to Merino. They are, nevertheless, both significant and, more importantly, accurate.
These Wool Loungers aren’t as flexible as a pair of minimalist shoes, but they’re a lot more flexible than your average pair of loungers, ideal for comfort and portability. In addition, these shoes are suitable for travel because of their minimal weight.
Wool Loungers Insole by Allbirds
Allbirds is doing a lot of good things in terms of environmental responsibility. To begin with, their shoes are made of eco-friendly materials. Allbirds claims that its Merino-lined insoles are created with castor bean oil (rather than petroleum-based foam) and that the Lounger sole is named SweetFoamTM and is derived from Brazilian sugarcane. (SweetFoamTM, according to Allbirds, is the “world’s first carbon-negative green EVA.”)

Allbirds is also a recognized B-corp, which means its employees are legally compelled to “examine the effect of their actions on their workers, customers, suppliers, community, and the environment,” according to the B-corp website. Allbirds also pledge to be carbon neutral by 2020 (with carbon offsets), which we applaud.
Finally, the packaging used to send the shoes to clients comprises 90% recycled materials and is entirely recyclable. There’s a lot more to say about this packing, which you can find out more about in our review of the Allbirds Wool Runners if you’re interested.
Before we go, we’d want to emphasize how versatile these sneakers are. Yes, they have that slipper look, but they’re primary and only come in muted colors, so they’ll go with most outfits and won’t draw too much attention to themselves. Of course, the Wool Runners are more adaptable than the Wool Loungers, but you could use these shoes in almost any informal scenario.
Furthermore, Allbirds shoes are fashionable. So as you swagger down the street, people may remark on your fabulous new sneakers.
Testing & Durability
We’ve been putting the Allbirds Wool Loungers to the test for almost two years. While we’re not significant lovers of the dad-aesthetic (no disrespect to fathers), we love the extensive list of amenities on the sneakers. Everything Allbirds promises is accurate for the most part, except odor resistance, which we weren’t satisfied with.
Wool Loungers Top And Bottom by Allbirds
We haven’t observed anything in durability after wearing these sneakers for two years. The insole has a minor pilling, but the top has none. The sole, on the other hand, is still going strong.
