Breville Smart Oven Pro BOV845BSSOven test

The Breville Smart Oven Pro is more than just a premium toaster oven. It could replace your current oven, with the ability to roast, bake, broil, simmer and even keep food warm.

With a power output of 1800 watts, it is no problem to prepare large dishes. 13-inch pizzas, roast beef or chicken pieces can easily be prepared. Some may consider this product an expensive toaster, we see it as an affordable all-rounder.

What you get: Convection oven with worktop, grill, baking tray and pizza pan. Additional trays and pizza boxes can be purchased separately.

Why should I buy a toaster?

For most people, toaster ovens work as an extension of an existing oven. If you’re cooking for a large crowd, this is a lifesaver! The main oven accommodates a large roast with vegetables, while the Breville provides baking sheets and pumpkin pie for dessert.

At first we doubted that a small device could evenly roast a chicken, bake a cake or do much more than bake bread. But we’ve been able to tick off many classic dishes with Breville’s oven, which always results in a well-cooked meal.

If you have kids who love to cook, a table top oven like this is perfect. Young children find it difficult to use a conventional stove, which is not safe for them. The Breville Smart Oven is easy to use with a smart screen that can automatically set cooking times for you. There is also a small door that children can easily open, but you still need to keep an eye on them.

Who is a good toaster for?

Toasters don’t just toast bread. It’s a multi-functional kitchen appliance that can cook anything the average cook can, but on a smaller scale.

  • If you live in a warm climate, these small ovens are a good option because they won’t turn your kitchen into an oven.
  • If you rent an apartment with a broken oven, you can use the toaster as a backup if the landlord doesn’t cooperate.
  • Large families and entertainers will appreciate the ability to prepare multiple meals at once.

If you’re happy with your current water heater, you might consider this analogy to transportation in downtown New York. Think of a toaster as a bicycle and a big stove as a sedan. Both have their uses, and you can reach your destination anywhere in the city, no matter which mode of transport you choose. A sedan offers the advantage of space, but a bicycle gets you to your destination faster and is much more efficient for short trips. That sums up the toaster, it’s exceptionally fast and efficient for small meals. The ideal complement to a traditional oven.

What we don’t like about the Brevillesmart furnace.

  • In small kitchens, there probably wouldn’t be room for a…

Breville BOV845BSS Version

The Breville BOV845BSS is a stylish stainless steel oven that will look good on any kitchen table. The unit measures 15¾ x 18½ x 11″, so you’ll need to verify that it will fit in your kitchen. For kitchens in small apartments, this device is probably not suitable.

At 18.5 inches wide, it’s not the largest countertop oven on the market, which can be a problem when cooking. If you like to bake cakes in a 9×13 pan or muffins on a standard size baking sheet, you’ll be disappointed because they won’t fit. It’s an inconvenience, but we’ve found that there’s always a regular Air Breville Smart Oven for these baked goods.

The top of the stove looks like a good place for extra storage in the kitchen. However, keep in mind that the surface gets very hot and is designed to stay clean. It does warm up the plates well before you eat them, but be careful with your fingers.

If you have a curious child who likes to touch everything, keep an eye on him to avoid hand burns.

The top of this stove gets very hot.

Inside the Breville Smart Oven is a non-stick coating that makes cleaning quick and easy. The interior lighting should also be wiped down regularly, otherwise it may lose some of its brightness.

There are three different heights for the stove supports. When the drawer is placed in the middle level, there is a magnet that pulls the drawer out when the door is opened. This feature is simple but very useful, especially if you are in a hurry and don’t want to burn your fingers.

Top inset: Grill and roll
middle rack : Toast, biscuits and pizza
Lower shelf : Cooking, roasting, heating and slow-cooking

You don’t have to worry about the above settings, as a sticker on the door of the unit clearly indicates this information.

Control panel

The intuitive controls don’t help you with the recipe, but they do help with the cooking process. Unlike some appliances that are difficult to operate, the Smart Oven Pro is very easy to use. There are only three main drives, which are intuitive to use.

Function set

You can choose between grilling, roasting, crumbling, baking, toasting, pizza, baking cookies, reheating and slow cooking. When you select one of these options, the oven automatically sets the temperature and cooking time. However, you still have full control over the settings if you want to customize them to your personal preferences.

Temperature scale

Adjust the temperature or intensity setting when making toast. A smart oven can reach 450°F much faster than a conventional oven.

Time setting

Set the cooking time manually or, if making toast, select the number of pieces. Total cooking time is two hours for frying or baking, 20 minutes for deep frying, and up to 10 hours can be programmed for slow cooking.

In addition to the dials, there is an on/off button, a light button, and a toggle button between Fahrenheit and Celsius.

Other keys

The convection button can be used to switch this function on and off. By activating the convection mode, the oven heats the hot air evenly. This setting cooks food faster and more evenly. The convection is switched off during frying and deep-frying.

There is also a choice of frozen meals if you want something frozen, such as bread, straight from the freezer.

As you can see, the oven has different settings, but in most cases you can just set a feature player and leave it at that.

How the Breville Smart Oven works

The oven uses five quartz heating elements that allow for infrared cooking. This means that the air should not become hot before the food starts to cook. The radiation is immediately absorbed by the food, initiating the cooking process. This function is useful because it allows the meat to cook perfectly without drying out.

Another reason you might need a Breville Smart Oven is simply because you want to make a lot of toast. This appliance can easily cook six slices at a time, which is ideal for large families or when you have visitors coming over.

It takes just over 3 minutes to brown 4 large or 6 small slices of bread. If you grill 4 slices, the cooking time will be slightly shorter because you can place all the slices closer to the center.

Perfectly toasted bread, every time.

If you bake six pieces of toast, you will notice that the edges of the bottom left and right pieces are completely brown. It’s not a big deal, but for some people it can be.

How to clean the Breville Smart Pro

The Breville Smart Pro is much easier to clean than a traditional oven, partly because of its smaller size. In addition, the bottom of the oven features a crumb tray that can be easily removed for cleaning. Wipe the inside of the stove regularly with a damp cloth.

Cleaning the oven is easy thanks to the practical crumb tray.

Concluding remarks

In the , we use a lot of small appliances like mixers, ice cream makers, pizza ovens and blenders. They are all useful, but the Breville Smart Oven Pro is a favorite and the most used appliance in the kitchen. We love that you can make more food if you are cooking for more than one person.

The counters also make the kitchen safer for children, who seem to take fewer risks due to their size. The door is smaller and burns much less quickly.

The Breville BOV845BSS Smart Oven Pro is not for everyone. If you have a small kitchen or kitchenette in your home, you will have a hard time managing the space. It’s a decent size and moving it to the garage or another room will be a chore. Note that this oven works in the same way as a microwave oven.

If you are buying this oven primarily for cooking, you should note that the interior width is 14 inches. This size is limited because a standard muffin tray or muffin tin would be too big.

However, this is a countertop oven and is not meant to replace your regular oven. If you can live with this size, you will be the proud owner of a well-built appliance designed to cook perfectly for years to come.
