In this Dell ultrasharp u3415w review, we look at the design. When you look at the dell ultrasharp u-3415w display from the front, you will see that the display has a common aesthetic with many modern dell displays. The edges consist of a thin space-gray outer section and a thicker black edge plate on the top and sides.
The edge of the panel is only really visible when the monitor is on. Together, they give the monitor a total thickness of 0.67 inches at the top and 0.71 inches on each side. The bottom has a thick matte black plastic frame and a one-inch thick panel slot.
Of course, the main feature of this monitor is the slightly curved screen. The surface has a very light matte finish (semi-gloss) to maintain good cleanliness and luster while still having subtle gloss properties.
On the outside, the monitor again has some of the features of many of the current Dell monitors. A sturdy and very flexible stand allows you to tilt the screen, adjust the height by 4.53 inches, and rotate it about 45 degrees to the left or right.
At the lowest height, the bottom of the screen extends about 1.57 inches above the table, and the top of the screen is about 16.14 inches above the table. The top of the screen is always above the top of the tripod neck. The screen is about 0.83 inches thick at its thinnest point and about 2.01 inches thick in the middle, not counting the stand.
The back of the monitor is pretty standard for a modern Dell and is equally minimalistic with lots of matte black plastic. The tripod is secured in the middle with a patented quick-release bracket. You can remove the monitor from the mount using the button below the mounting point and access the 100 x 100 mm VESA holes to use another mount or bracket if necessary. Now let’s see how this elegant monitor works.
The Dell UltraSharp u3415w 34-inch curved LED-backlit display features 9-watt stereo speakers hidden beneath the screen. These built-in speakers produce clear sound with crisp highs and mids. Although the base is somewhat recessed compared to more powerful floor standing speakers and some wall-mounted speakers, the sound has much more punch than is usual for built-in monitor speakers.
Although the built-in speakers cannot compete with a high-end external 2.1 solution, the u-3415w still delivers good sound quality. That’s enough for non-standard use, and the sound is worth listening to in the room. The volume is particularly surprising. It measures up to 90 dB (A) at a distance of 15 cm.
3. Image quality
In this Dell ultrasharp u3415w review, we also looked at the image quality. The brightness is even lower near the edges, at 225 cd/m2. In addition, the black background shows slight bleeding at the corners of the upper and lower segments. However, with daily use, you will not notice these effects.
In the OSD menu or in the Display Manager software, the brightness can be reduced in 100 steps to a minimum of 19 cd/m2 (factory setting: 75% corresponds to approx. 310 cd/m2). In this way, the screen’s brightness can be perfectly adjusted to all circumstances. However, it is important to note that the monitor does not have automatic brightness adjustment.
Unlike cheaper models with LED displays and most laptops, the u-3415w does not use pulse width modulation (PWM) to control brightness. This keeps the image on the darkened monitor very calm and flicker-free.
4. Response time
The Dell ultrasharp u-3415w response time is 5 ms. The response time also has its own settings and can be adjusted in the OSD menu. You can choose between regular or fast. You can also note the transition from black to white (B/W) and the transition from gray to gray (G/G).
