Fjallraven Greenland Pocket Review. One of Fjallraven’s newest models, Greenland, is a sizeable duffle-style bag that comes in two colors: black and taupe. These are great color options for those who want something more subdued than bright shades or fun prints like you would find on other styles from the brand.

The Fjallraven Greenland Pocket is just an exterior pocket with a strap and a little more space. It’s sturdy, simple, and just the perfect size for urban excursions. This crossbody bag, a bigger version of Fjallraven’s original Pocket, sits comfortably across the chest and can be adjusted to fit your style and needs.

We’ve been carrying this bag with us regularly, but it would also make a great personal item. So let’s take a closer look at the details to discover where this crossbody bag shines (and where it doesn’t)!

Aesthetics & Materials

We went for black, although Fjallraven now offers nine colors, most of which are earthy tones like Super Grey and Acorn. We believe the black is the most elegant, but with such a basic design, they’re all quite sleek—simple enough to match any outfit and fashionable enough to go out for drinks.

Fjallraven Greenland Pocket In DetroitThe branding here isn’t too crazy, keeping with the basic feel. With their arctic fox emblem imprinted on the push button and a tag on the bottom right of the bag, you can tell Fjallraven manufactured it, but it doesn’t detract from the overall design. It’s worth noting that the base tag is made of leather, so if you’re allergic to leather (or animal goods in general), you may want to avoid it.

The bag’s primary fabric is the G-1000 Heavy Duty Eco S canvas mix, which is 65 percent recycled polyester and 35 percent organic cotton (thus the “Eco”). If you want to dig into the weeds, check out our review of the Fjallraven Travel Pack, where we go into great detail on this fabric.

However, our Heavy-Duty G-1000 fabric is solid and weather-resistant if you want the gist. The material has already been waxed with Fjallraven Greenland wax, but you may apply additional polish to the canvas as you use the bag for increased durability and lifespan.

Fjallraven Greenland Pocket Logo And MaterialThe bag has YKK #5 Reverse Coil zippers, which are not only sturdy but also provide additional weather resistance and a bit of classiness, in our opinion. The reverse coil—the zipper teeth are internally rather than outwardly facing—adds further weather resistance and a touch of class.

Fjallraven Greenland Pocket ZipperFinally, Wasa, a Swedish firm renowned for its high-quality goods, provided the push button. As a result, it will not break apart on you, at least not in theory.

Components from Outside

Externally, there isn’t much going on, which we consider a plus (though we’re always fans of minimalist designs).

The bag features a flexible fit that you may customize to your preferences. The crossbody strap is easy to tighten or loosen—depending on your style and mood. You may wear it near to your chest or let it dangle. In more busy places, such as markets or airports, we’ve found that having it near provides an additional sense of security.

Fjallraven Greenland Pocket StrapThe strap is simple to adjust and feels sturdy, although it is a little scratchy. We don’t recommend wearing the bag with delicate textiles since the contact between the strap and the fabric may cause harm.

Finally, we arrive at the push button. It snaps open and closes with ease yet is tight enough to keep your belongings safe within. It’s a win-win situation. This feature has been a massive hit with us.

Inside the Bundle

This item has a surprising amount of internal structure on the interior for such a little bag.

Let’s take a look at the front pocket first. For extra organizing, there’s a tiny quick-grab pocket on the inside. This is a fantastic place to keep your phone, cash, or other things you’ll need to reach quickly—we’ve been using it to store our ROAV travel sunglasses. The more oversized pocket is ideal for storing keys or munchies (which, if you’re anything like us, is essential). It doesn’t have a zipper, but it’s deep enough that the button keeps it tight. As a result, we’ve never had to be concerned about our belongings slipping out.

Fjallraven Greenland Pocket Quick-grab PocketNow it’s time to move on to the rear pocket. It isn’t precisely concealed, but it isn’t quite apparent either. It’s perfect for things with a flatter profile, like your passport or other travel papers. Because it’s zipped and rests closely against your body, it’s also the most secure portion of the pack, which we like on a backpack designed for travel.

Fjallraven Greenland Pocket Back PocketFinally, there’s the main compartment, with a zipper across the top that opens. An extra pocket is stitched onto the rear of the bag, which is thinner but just as deep as the main one. Change, headphones, and even your phone or wallet may be tossed here.

The main compartment provides enough space for more important things. It can even fit coats like the Arc’teryx Zeta SL Jacket inside. While throwing a jacket in there adds some weight, it doesn’t seem significant, which we believe is a nice touch. You may even put a tiny notepad, e-reader, or an actual book here if you’re feeling nostalgic.

Fjallraven Greenland Pocket With JacketThe inside fabric is a bright-ish beige hue, which is an additional benefit (except in the front pocket). While the color isn’t as brilliant as some of the high-visibility interiors we’ve seen in other bags—neon isn’t Fjallraven’s style—luminous it’s enough that you’ll be able to find your belongings rather fast.

Fjallraven Greenland Pocket Inside ColorThere are no guarantees, though, that you won’t have to rummage through your luggage for those keys you just know are somewhere in there. Because the holes are small and the pockets are deep, it may be difficult to locate anything near the bottom of the bag. This isn’t a deal-breaker by any means, but it’s worth noting, particularly when contrasted to another bag we’d suggest as a personal item, the Eagle Creek Wayfinder Waist Pack, which features compartments that enable you to see what’s within.

Testing & Durability

We’ve been using the Fjallraven Greenland Pocket for almost a month as a daily carry bag, but it’s also a great personal item for traveling, as we said.

It’s big enough to hold all of your travel necessities and keep them organized for a stress-free trip, but it’s not too big or heavy. It’s really a fantastic size. It’s also small enough to tuck into a bigger bag and forget about when you don’t want or need to carry it separately.

Fjallraven Greenland Pocket In BagOnce you’ve arrived at your location, it’s also a good bag to use for everyday trips since it has enough room for the necessities plus a light or compressible jacket. Thanks to an easy-to-adjust strap, you may also hold the load close to your chest for additional protection. It’s also smart enough to transition from day to night (coffee shop to a five-star restaurant, if you will).

Fjallraven Greenland Pocket DustThe outer fabric’s ability to take up dirt and fluff is our most significant complaint. We’ve observed this with previous Fjallraven bags, but the black hue brings it out even more. The ground also doesn’t come off quickly—we’ve discovered that you have to use a damp towel to remove it, which isn’t ideal for travel. We’re interested to see how the lighter colors perform since dust and fluff are unlikely to appear.

But that’s only a cosmetic flaw. We haven’t observed any other significant problems with the product’s durability. And, in general, we like this bag a lot.
