The total weight of a laptop is one of my biggest worries when I buy something that has to be very portable, something that I will constantly take with me to work or school or on my commute. Light and robust construction is more important than the most compact size or the thinnest housing, even if the two are usually placed next to each other.

Manufacturers rarely specify the weight of their devices. Still, since I suppose many of you are interested in these lightweight computers, I’ve compiled a list of the lightest options you can find in stores worldwide, based on a few criteria. As a result, we’re seeing the rise of ordinary clamshell ultra computers, 2-in-1 convertibles, Windows tablets, and a few Chromebooks – instant and affordable options for everyday use these days.

I have also provided details of each device, the hardware specifications, screen size, and battery for each device. The latter is especially important because some devices skimp as little as possible on the size of the battery to weigh as little as possible, and I would not be willing to do without it in front of my daily computer.

Weighing less than a kilo, these are the lightest computers today. I have listed most laptops of normal size, but also some tablets that stay under a kilo with their keyboard.
