Stretch pants like Prana Zion are ideal for maintaining your daily yoga routine, but they also offer a little style. The pants sit low on the waist and have ample stretch for every movement without sacrificing comfort or quality.
The price is The Ana Stretch Zion Pants are named after Zion National Park, which is famous for its rust-colored cliffs and panoramic vistas of the desert. These pants have a lot of expectations to live up to.
We’ve been putting the Stretch Zion Pants to the test for the last three years. Three years, yes, you read it correctly. We’ve worn them on various eco-outings, and we have to say, these trousers live up to their moniker (and the hype among outdoorsy folks). Why? So, let’s have a look at them.
Features, Fabric, and Fit
Let’s start with a no-brainer. The prAna Stretch Zion Pants aren’t going to win you any prizes for style. The pants have a loose, baggy shape, giving them rustic air that won’t work in the city. The pants are now available in five modest hues that indeed emphasize that technological aesthetic: Bronzed, Cargo Green, Charcoal, Dark Khaki, and Mud are some of the hues offered (note: not all of the colors are available for all of the inseam sizes)
These trousers, of course, aren’t made to look good—they’re designed to function.
They’re fashioned from prAna’s Stretch Zion Fabric, a 97 percent nylon/3 percent spandex combination. These trousers are water-resistant, thanks to the DWR coating on the fabric. Anything with a DWR coating now needs special attention to preserve the coating’s lifetime. Even if you follow the maintenance recommendations to the letter, the coating will fade with time. The water resistance is substantially less effective after three years (and the trousers weren’t very water-resistant, to begin with).
In addition, the fabric contains a UPF of 50+, which is excellent for sun protection. These trousers are too thick for us to be comfortable in hot weather, particularly while exerting ourselves, but the sun may shine on colder days, so we like this feature.
These trousers are supple enough for any athletic endeavor you have in mind, with a four-way stretch and gusseted crotch. They were climbing on a rock face. Hiking. Yoga. I’ve been playing a lot of video games lately. Ventilation holes are also included in the gusseted crotch, which you’ll enjoy throughout all of the aforementioned sports activities. Breathability + stretch, of course, equals comfort. These are the kind of pants you’ll want to wear all the time (it might even become a problem).
We’ll go into the durability of these trousers a little later, but know that they’re abrasion-resistant and built to stay up with all of your excursions.
We stated earlier how roomy these pants are, and although that’s not ideal for everyday wear, it’s ideal for adventure. If you’re like that kind of thing, the cuffs will fit over a thick pair of hiking boots and won’t restrict your mobility.
Furthermore, the pants include an adjustable waistline that functions as a built-in belt, eliminating the need for a separate belt. This is a huge benefit, particularly if you’re a climber since wearing a belt and a harness at the same time isn’t exactly pleasant. When hiking or camping, it’s also useful when your hip belt causes your belt buckle to scrape into your flesh. However, the trousers include belt loops as well, so if you’re picky about your belts and want to wear your favorite bedazzled, ode-to-Elvis belt while summiting, you may.
In terms of pockets, the Stretch Zion trousers contain a total of five. One standard back pocket and two regular front pockets with mesh inserts. A piece of cloth is placed over the top of the second rear pocket to keep it shut. However, items may still slip out since it isn’t zipped or secured. A zipped pocket on the side of the trousers serves as the fifth pocket.
While we don’t believe this zippered pocket adds to the aesthetic of these trousers (in fact, we think it detracts from it), it is instrumental. For starters, it’s zipped, making it ideal for storing goods you don’t want to lose. Whatever you want it to be: money, a good luck charm, whatever you want it to be. It’s also convenient since it’s always accessible, while the other four pockets aren’t. For example, assume you’re climbing and the front pockets of your harness have been sealed shut. It’s no trouble to place your phone in the zipped pocket, climb, and then grab your phone to take a photo of the magnificent view from the summit.
The roll-up leg snaps are the last feature worth mentioning. Some individuals prefer not to have their trousers near their feet when climbing, so the ability to roll up the cuffs and clip them into place is a benefit. Aside from climbing, this is great for wading through streams on a trek, playing in puddles while channeling your inner five-year-old, or just getting some additional ventilation.
Testing & Durability
We’ve been testing the prAna Stretch Zion Pant for three years and counting, as we indicated at the start of this review. And it’s not like we don’t wear them regularly. We’ve been put through the wringer, oh no. We were climbing, hiking, climbing some more, backpacking, and climbing more. They’ve become our go-to adventure trousers, and we’ve even recommended them to the other explorers in our life. It’s simply that they’re that excellent.

Even better, they’re still running strong in terms of durability. There’s a smidgeon of pilling around the knees, but that’s all. For a pair of jeans that regularly come into touch with a rock wall, this is outstanding (which has the texture and grit of sandpaper).
The prAna Stretch Zion Pant is an excellent option if you’re searching for a sturdy, comfortable pair of trousers to take on all of your outdoor adventures.
