I was recently in the market for new shorts, and these made it to my list. I had heard good things about them, so I decided to give them a shot, and now that they have arrived, here is what you need to know before purchasing your pair.
The Patagonia Women’s Barely BaggiesTM Shorts are a terrific choice for adaptable travel, particularly if you’re going someplace warm by the sea. We’ve been thrilled with their simple style, which lets us wear them just about anywhere—except at a sophisticated dinner party, when they may not fly.
Aesthetics & Materials
The shorts have a robust and water-repellent finish and are 100% nylon (92 percent recycled). The fabric is bluesign® certified, and they are made in a fair trade environment, ensuring that the people who make the product are paid fairly and have safe working conditions. We give it two thumbs up. They’re also available in a seemingly endless variety of colors and designs. We picked a patterned pair to provide a burst of color to our wardrobe, and we’ve discovered that they work well with a more neutral outfit since they go with almost every shirt. If you want to keep things simple, primary hues like black could be a good choice.
Features and Components
It may adjust the covered elastic waistband and inner drawcord system on the Barely BaggiesTM at the waist. So if they’re a little loose, tighten them up, and they’ll be a little more secure. We’ve also noted that everything below the waistline feels a little “stiff” at first, but don’t worry—this sensation goes away after a few wears in our testing.
These particular shorts feature a 212″ inseam and two pockets on the left and right sides (you know, the place where pockets usually exist). Each bag is lined with a polyester mesh that works well in a sandy climate. We wore ours across the sand deserts of Utah and the vast dunes of Northern Michigan, and our pockets remained spotless. There’s also an elastic key loop in the right pocket.
There’s also a top-entry mesh pocket that’s concealed. Because of its position and security, this nook became our favorite. It may hold little objects like keys, chapstick, and other everyday necessities.
A little slit is placed at the bottom of each side, beneath the pocket region where the seams connect, to aid movement. This is ideal for outdoor activities since it improves comfort and versatility. The only issue is that flexibility entails vulnerability. Specifically, exposure to things you would not want the ordinary joe behind you to see. In other words, if you intend on bending, moving, and dancing, built-in underwear is always an excellent addition to shorts.
This isn’t a deal-breaker, and if you’re going to the beach, your bathing suit bottoms should be OK beneath. Aside from that, our advice is to keep your underwear in a neutral hue.
Testing & Durability
Overall, the adaptability of these shorts has amazed us. We’ve worn them to sandy beaches many times and like how the mesh lining filters out any sand that inevitably ends up in your pockets. The elastic key-loop in the right bag isn’t something we’ve often used, but it’s handy for securely attaching keys when walking along the beach or swimming in the water. You don’t want to be caught in a wave with them!
We’ve chosen to hang-dry things rather than throw them in the dryer in terms of care. We’ve discovered that any “water-resistant” article of clothing or swimwear holds its shape better without being exposed to the heat of a dryer. As a result of natural drying techniques and carrying them in your baggage for long periods, they may wrinkle a little. But the choice is entirely yours! Fortunately, if you take care of them as we have, they will appear new months after purchase. To top it off, they dry quickly, which is exactly what they were made for.
