We’ve all heard about WANDRD’s PRVKE lineup by now. The original PRVKE was lauded for its versatility of accessibility and photography-focused capabilities. Fast forward a few years, and the same can be said about the PRVKE 21L, the topic of this review. It’s a little smaller than the original—by around 10 liters—but it still has all the basics.

WANDRD’s Essential Camera Cubes are in charge of the majority of the camera gear storage responsibilities in the PRVKE series, which we’ll go over in depth later. There are a lot of things to explore here, the most of which will be recognizable to anyone who have followed the PRVKE series for some time. Let’s get started without further ado.

Aesthetics & Materials

The PRVKE 21L follows in the footsteps of the rest of the PRVKE backpacks in terms of design. The style is distinctively PRVKE, from the characteristic rolltop to the placement of the emblem. You can definitely get a nice Matryoshka doll effect if you place all of the PRVKE backpack variants side by side.

So far, we’ve experienced very few issues with PRVKE backpacks. The tarpaulin easily repels spills, the Robic Nylon is as tough as its hefty denier implies, and the YKK zippers are as dependable as a Swiss watch. The tarpaulin is the weakest link among the materials, since it quickly picks up markings and scratches in our experience. This is worrisome, particularly since opening the PRVKE 21L’s clamshell exposes the front of the bag to whatever surface it is placed on. If you want to photograph outside, take cautious not to scratch your camera on the pavement.

We have a black sample, but there are two additional colors available at the time of writing: Wasatch Green and Aegean Blue. When it comes to colorways, we usually have preferences, but we believe you can’t go wrong with any of them. Whatever option you pick, the materials have the same advantages and disadvantages.

Components from Outside

The PRVKE 21L’s strap system seems to be as busy as the rest of the backpack. There are eight loops on each shoulder strap, with the final ones partially hidden by horizontal loops. Even if those final ones are hidden, the sheer quantity will likely please even the most ardent loop user.

WANDRD PRVKE 21L StrapsWANDRD PRVKE 21L | Loops for accessories abound on the shoulder straps.

The bottom part of the shoulder straps is devoted to rails for the sliding sternum strap, which is our preferred kind due to the fine adjustability. Although the 21-liter daypack capacity of this edition doesn’t require one, it’s a pity our sample didn’t come with one. There are additional loops for attaching a waist strap, although they’re not absolutely necessary at this size. The shoulder straps are capable of delivering a pleasant carrying experience on their own. They feature a large surface area that evenly distributes weight, and the cushioning makes long days of photography a breeze.

The thickness of the shoulder cushioning pales in comparison to the back panel padding. The quantity of cushioning here would make some bus seats blush, thus the back panel deserves a lot of the credit for the PRVKE 21L’s carrying comfort. The only drawback is that the baggage pass-through is a little difficult to use due to the thickness of the foam panels, particularly when the backpack is completely loaded.

WANDRD PRVKE 21L Hidden PocketWANDRD PRVKE 21L | WANDRD PRVKE 21L | WANDRD PRVKE 21 There’s a security pocket near the baggage pass-through and the rear panel is well-padded.

The distinctive tote-style handles featured throughout the PRVKE range are located at the top of the PRVKE 21L. These magnets click together so they don’t flap about while you’re carrying the bag around. The words “Wander more, worry less” are written on the inside of these handles. By the way, that’s the name of WANDRD’s warranty policy.

Six nylon loops on the front let you to connect extras like carabiners, keychains, or bike lights. There are also compression straps on the sides to hold everything in place, but the right side strap is immediately above the water bottle compartment and may be used to attach a small tripod.

The aforementioned water bottle compartment is also very nice, since it folds and zips entirely flat when not in use. It has a flexible mesh gusset that helps it expand when it’s time to use it. Our EcoVessel holds 16 ounces. The ASPEN, as well as our big 32-ounce Hydro Flask, fit well.

The Backpack Inside

There are five secondary compartments in all on the PRVKE 21L: a front pocket, a top pocket, a key pocket, a back security pocket, and a bottom pocket—quite a few for a 21-liter daypack.

WANDRD PRVKE 21L Front and Water Bottle PocketWANDRD PRVKE 21L | WANDRD PRVKE 21L | WANDRD PRVKE 21 Although the water bottle pocket folds flat, the front pocket does as well.

The top-to-bottom opening of the front pocket is almost complete. In our review of the PRVKE Lite, we mentioned that the front pocket had very little depth, and the PRVKE 21L is no different. It becomes cramped, particularly with a camera cube in the bottom half of the main compartment. As a result, flat things like wires, IDs, and notebooks work well.

The top pocket features a soft inner fabric that avoids scratching for more delicate things like sunglasses or cellphones. Dongles and tiny adapters, which are often used electronic products, will also find a place here. However, since the inside cloth is black, locating tiny things may be difficult.

WANDRD PRVKE 21L Top PocketWANDRD PRVKE 21L | WANDRD PRVKE 21L | WANDRD PRVKE 21 To avoid scratches, the top pocket is fleece-lined.

A dedicated key pocket is located on the PRVKE 21L’s top left side. If you have a lot of keys, there’s a built-in key clip with a short leash, but there’s not a lot of room for anything else. There’s a security compartment near the baggage pass-through and below the bottom padding of the rear panel for equally or more important things like travel papers or a wallet. Even though our wallet is large, the additional bulge is hardly visible once the PRVKE 21L is on our back.

Finally, there’s a bottom pocket for additional things you wish to keep concealed but don’t require immediate access to. With a little effort, you can put a pair of narrow shoes or flip-flops inside, and it also serves as a separate compartment for filthy clothes—just be sure to get them out as soon as possible since this pocket has no ventilation holes.

The side quick-access hatch for cameras is one of the PRVKE 21L’s most notable characteristics. A built-in SD card compartment is located on the flap. WANDRD has thrown in an additional feature that we like; it maximizes every bit of available space where you can find it.

The PRVKE 21L was put to the test with WANDRD’s Essential Deep Camera Cube. The Essential Deep, while being intended to work with the bigger PRVKE 41L, also fits within the 21-liter version. The cube’s flap may be tucked into the main backpack’s flap, allowing opening the quick-access pocket a one smooth action rather than struggling with two zippers. Despite the size difference, it’s good to know that if you like the Deep but have a 21L backpack, the bigger cube can do the job.

WANDRD PRVKE 21L Quick Access PocketWANDRD PRVKE 21L | A side pocket for keys is located above the quick-access hatch.

The main compartment may be accessed in two ways: via the rolltop or through the clamshell opening. The PRVKE 21L’s volume can be expanded since it’s a rolltop; therefore, the hefty G-hook can be adjusted in length, and there are two sets of hook-side velcros on the front side to which the loop-side velcros on the rear may connect. This is good for fast access to the main compartment, but only partially. Clamshell access, on the other hand, is the way to go for complete access.

The PRVKE 21L opens completely clamshell when the zips on the sides are pulled away. WANDRD even has accessory strap loops on the side so you can unzip the bag at a 90-degree angle.

WANDRD PRVKE 21L Roll TopWANDRD PRVKE 21L | The rolltop may be expanded for even more room if necessary.

The main compartment is split into two sections: an upper area that may be accessed through the rolltop or a peel-away zipped flap, and a bottom section that has room for a camera cube. If you need more room, you may fold down the center barrier and connect the velcro to merge the two sections.

The upper section is for things that aren’t strictly photography-related, but it can definitely accommodate a variety of gadget pouches. Clothing packing cubes and Dopp kits fit inside, and the extensible rolltop allows you to pack a lot of them. The peel-away flap is also a great touch, since it gives you the option of keeping the compartment shut. Oh, and it’s called a peel-away compartment by WANDRD since the flap can be peeled away like a fruit—sweet!

WANDRD PRVKE 21L Top Down EmptyWANDRD PRVKE 21L | The main compartment is split into two sections: bottom and upper.

The bottom section has been hollowed down to make room for a camera cube. WANDRD created this for their Essential series of camera cubes, to be more specific. It’s worth mentioning that if the PRVKE 21L is left empty, it collapses around this location. Plus, without a camera cube to put inside, there’s nothing in the way of organizing for cameras and lenses. Unless you already have a camera cube that fits and you’re happy with, bundling or buying a cube outright is practically a must.

A panel of compartments on the back side of the main compartment holds all of your electronic accessories. At the top, there are twin pockets, and below them is a large one. For the adapters and dongles that cameras utilize, they have a lot of depth. The bottommost portion, on the other hand, isn’t a pocket—simply it’s a little of padding for further protection.

WANDRD PRVKE 21L Top Down FullWANDRD PRVKE 21L | Organizing and safeguarding camera equipment necessitates the use of a camera cube.

The tablet and laptop sleeves, which are locked off by a velcro closure, are hidden behind these compartments. The sleeves are also cushioned for additional protection, in addition to the extensive padding on the back panel. So much so that after every pocket is stuffed, things may become a little snug, and getting items out can be difficult.

WANDRD PRVKE 21L with GearWANDRD PRVKE 21L | Like the rest of the PRVKE backpacks, the 21-liter version comes with a flashlight.

WANDRD crammed a lot of features into the PRVKE 21L, as well as the rest of the PRVKE backpacks. Regardless of whatever PRVKE you have, they all have distinctive style, flexible access, useful attachments, and an emphasis on photography-centric functionality.
